untitled (can't think of one)

I think there are a lot of friends who were following my blog at the start of my exchange programme in Beijing, but have stopped since I do not update my blog. Paiseh for that. Anyway, I am now back in Singapore and trying to adapt to a semester full of projects which is rather unlike my lifestyle in Beijing when I could go around to shop, eat and travel.

Since I got back, I have been missing a lot of things, for instance my fav 桃李麻辣烫, cycling, all my shopping and most importantly food expeditions. Because of this I have been trying to find back this lifestyle in Singapore, resulting in me not only gaining back weights I lost in Beijing (yes, I lost weight there despite my food expeditions, due to extensive cycling), but gained extra. I have been trying very hard to go on diet, but people who knows me will know of my Archilles' heels, which is food.

I have been complaining that I have not been going for good food for a long time since I got back from Beijing, but in actual fact, I did and I did it quite often. In order to correct my false 'assumptions, I have decided to record down faithfully, hopefully that will act as a control to my many temptations.

Went cycling today in a great weather. Haven't cycle for a long long time. Cycled from my grandma's hse to the sembawang park. Glad that I have not lost my feel on the bike, since I paid a great price learning it in Beijing. Feeling rejuvenated.

Lastly, my dear friends, if you follow my blog, I will be listing out my food outings, and find my usual complains of not been eating good food unjustifiable, please*5 do remind me.

Snow!!!

I am now in Beijing. I thought I should share my excitement with all now. Just a moment ago I went downstairs of the hostel and i saw SNOW!!! Together with junda, huaijie and qinghan we looked like some jungle tortoise getting all excited and everything over the snow. To think that we can still see snow at this period of the year. However when we were playing snow, the locals tell us that this is probably just ice. But it's alright, it look like snow to me anyway. However it is said that we might (cross my finger) we might just see snow tomorrow.

To everyone, I have settled down in Beijing already. Have been busy on the first day doing all the administrative work, and Tsinghua University is big, but the offices which we got to go to do all the cards like internet, meal cards and registration are all at different parts of the school. I had my 1st meal there in Tsinghua as well. Not too bad. This meal that you see here don't cost each of us more than S$1, in fact only abt ~S$0.80.

1st day is essentially all admin work and going to Wudaokou to do some shopping for grocery. 2nd day which is yesterday was just busy module mapping and ya, we had a good vegetarian meal, thanks to ian. It's actually a good thing that we have got so many NUS students coming here this time round, even if each of us just contribute one dish we can try a lot of different food. Today we had a dinner over at Ian's place, for Singaporeans who are staying in Beijing. Thanks to Ian again, quite quite incredible to whip out so many savoury dishes for all of us. At the dinner, through interaction with the seniors at the dinner, we start to form ideas of where we want to go for travelling. Originally wanted to go ski tomorrow but I don't think it is possible due to the weather. Overall I would say that I'm fine here at this moment, trying to adapt to the new environment, trying to adapt to living alone overseas away from my family, and many more to come. Right now, me and my friends are in the planning stage on where we are interested to travel to. Should be able to read more about food and travel in posts to come. For now, i got to sleep. We have arranged to learn how to cycle tomorrow morning. Ya, I don't know to cycle...

Busy- cousin's wedding!

Finally exam is over. It was over on Fri, but this few days I haven't really had time to rest at all. It was quite a rush of events, all lined up since Fri.

Yesterday was the wedding of my cousin, Ah Tien and his wife, Meihui. Congratulations!!! It was quite a hectic day, lots of work to be done. I was writing my emcee script while I see my grandma and all the aunts rushing in and out to prepare the decor, and necessary things for the tea ceremony. After the tea ceremony and lots of photo taking, we got to rush over to OCC, to get ready for the 'big thing'- the wedding dinner at night. Again I was rushing my script, while the others stole a few moments of break in between,...then I was told that there was already a emcee script prepared for me...ok then...busy busy again, to memorise the script this time round and add some personal touch to it. Wedding dinner is the time when all the gals and women alike put in their best efforts to doll themselves up, me included (I got to go on stage...so ya...) After which, everyone start to take their position, doing the rehearsal and stuff, the brothers and sisters of the couple are all busy running in and out, doing this and that...

Finally the guests started to come in group by group. It's quite interesting to see the dressing of the guests and relatives. For an event like this, I think many spent quite a sum on their dress, make-up and hair styling...suddenly it seems like a mini beauty contest...haha. The dinner started quite late, as of most usual Chinese wedding dinners. Actually, the dinner past quite fast, maybe because I have got work to do, instead of sitting down and counting the dishes (as i would have done in other dinners). I think this would be very unforgettable for Andy and Meihui, not only for it being their big day, but also for the 2 major technical hiccups during the dinner...

It's been quite some time since there was a wedding in the family. Overall, I would say I enjoyed myself while being busy with something almost all the time and this is the first time that I emceed for a wedding dinner. It wasn't a very good job, but I believe given more practice, it would be better. To Andy and Meihui, once again, CONGRATULATION!!!

Well, I said a lot of events are lined up already, so this is one of them, the next is I am flying off tonight to Shanghai for holiday and will be back in 8 days time. That's why now I'm blogging in preparation of my exchange trip next year, trying to get use to it. Do wait for my updates on my shanghai trip.
